West Mecklenburg Dominates Vance

It was not how the Vance Cougars wanted to open the season. They found themselves in a 28-7 hole in the first quarter alone. It would be the Browns doing the damage early (no, not the Cleveland Browns). Dyami Brown and Preston Brown each put up two touchdowns. Preston Brown threw two touchdown pass to Tyler Barnes (15 yards and 33 yards) and Dyami Brown rushed for two touchdowns (12 and 11 yards). Kalen Clark got Vance’s only touchdown in the first quarter with a 12-yard touchdown run.

Vance would recover two West Mecklenburg fumbles and would stop the bleeding in the second quarter. The Cougars cut the lead to 28-13 midway through the second quarter but it was not enough to save the day for Vance. The Hawks extended their lead in the third quarter with another touchdown run by Dyami Brown. This time it was from three yards out. The other Brown, Preston, would put the game out of reach with a two-yard pass to Joshua Hudson. Christian Alvarez was 6-for-6 on his extra point kicks.

The Cougars did score an oh-by-the-touchdown as the buzzer sounded when quarterback Nigel Summerville hit Jaylon Riley for a 28-yard touchdown pass. That made the final 42-19 in favor of West Mecklenburg.
