Gaston and Cleveland Week 5 Picks

Game of the Week: South Point (4-0) @ A.C. Reynolds (3-1) – South Point takes their 16-game regular season winning streak to Asheville as they take on the Rockets of A.C. Reynolds. A.C. Reynolds opened the season with a 28-0 loss to West Forsyth but have been on a roll since then. The Red Raiders have only been challenged once this year and that was in their 35-24 come-from-behind win over Shelby after trailing 24-14. Both are coming off blowout wins from last week. Which team will keep their momentum going?

My pick: South Point 42 – A.C. Reynolds 28

Vance (2-1) @ Hunter Huss (1-3) – A brutal schedule continues for Hunter Huss. Vance is coming off a 71-0 rout of Garinger and just the week before that, they gave 4A powerhouse Richmond a competitive ball game. The Huskies played Rocky River tough in the first half before falling 28-17. This will be just as tough a challenge for them.

My pick: Vance 38 – Hunter Huss 21

East Gaston (0-2) @ Cherryville (0-3) – Both teams are seeking their first win of the season. But East Gaston would have the edge in this game. The Warriors are only losing games by an average margin of 16 points. Cherryville’s margin is much bigger and they have allowed 50+ points in three of their losses. This one could get out of hand real quick.

My pick: East Gaston 42 – Cherryville 12

Highland Tech (0-3) @ Bessemer City (1-3) – The Bessemer City Yellow Jackets are seeking their second win of the season against a conference foe in a non-conference match-up. Highland Tech is looking to just get in the win column.

My pick: Bessemer City 34 – Highland Tech 12

Kings Mountain (2-2) @ Burns (4-0) – Kings Mountain is hoping to stop their two-game losing skid. But they are running into a stout Burns team. The Bulldogs routed two previously unbeaten teams in these past two weeks alone (Freedom and Chase). This could be a long night for the Mountaineers.

My pick: Burns 41 – Kings Mountain 21

Crest (2-1) @ T.C. Roberson (2-2) – T.C. Roberson is also hoping to halt a two-game losing streak. But they too could have their hands full as they host Crest. The Rams are coming off a 31-21 loss to Ashbrook. Whereas Crest handled Draughn 39-6. This one could be a tight ball game.

My pick: Crest 24 – T.C. Roberson 14

Chase (2-1) @ Shelby (2-2) – Chase saw their 2-0 start vanish in thin air as they were dropkicked by Burns 48-9. The Trojans hope to rebound from that as they travel to Shelby. Shelby, on the other hand, had no problem with R-S Central as they throttled the Hilltoppers 45-14. Will Chase be able to rebound from last week’s crushing defeat?

My pick: Shelby 42 – Chase 28
